On 30th December 1429, the following Papal Matrimonial Dispensation was applied for: "William de Lawedre, layman, Burgess of Edinburgh, St.Andrews' diocese, and Agnes Rode or Rede, daughter of the late John Rode or Rede of Edinburgh, desires to be joined in matrimony in the face of Holy Mother Church, but because of spiritual relationship arising from the fact that Robert de Lawedre, father of William, was Godfather of Agnes, they cannot fulfill their desire without apostolic dispensation. It is supplicated that the Pope would dispense them to contract matrimony per verba legitime de presenti in the face of the church and to remain in the same notwithstanding above impediment, declaring offspring to be born legitimate."[1]
On the 4th December 1423, a Warrant for safe conduct till 1st March next was sealed at Westminster for John de Touris, George de Lawedre [the Burgess & Provost], Robert de Lawedre, and James Rede, at present in England, and two servants each, to go to Scotland and return at pleasure. Similar for Gilbert de Lawedre and four servants.[2] It seems probable that this James Rede is a relation of Agnes Rede and her father John.
In a charter signed at Edinburgh 26th June 1474 and confirmed there on 27th July 1475, the King confirms a charter of Robert Lauder junior, Lord of Edringtoun, as superior of West Nisbet, to David Creichtoun of Cranstoun and his heirs, the lands of West Nisbet in the barony of Pencaitland, Haddingtonshire, which John de Colquhoun of Luss has resigned into the said Robert Lauder junior's hands. Witnesses included Robert Lauder of The Bass, father of said Robert junior, and William Lauder.[3]
William Lauder and a Sir Thomas Hunter, chaplain, appear among witnesses to a charter dated 19th November 1483 relating to a house of Katherine Fawlou [Fallow], wife of the late George Ramsay, and daughter of the late George Fawlou, on the north side of the High Street of Edinburgh, the neighbouring proprietors being the heirs of William Carubris [Carreboris] on the north. [There is some relationship here with Agnes Fallow, second wife of Sir Robert Lauder of the Bass (d.1495). Her first husband was William Carreboris and her sister was Katherine], Sir Alexander Scot on the south, the late George Pennycuk on the West, and John Lindsay of Covynton on the east.[4]
